There is no single testing interval that is appropriate for every item in every Victorian workplace. The environment, equipment type, manner of use, risk and applicable workplace duties all matter.
Why the environment matters
Equipment used in a harsh workshop, construction environment or frequently moved setting may require a different inspection program from equipment in a low-risk office.
Start with the workplace and equipment
An appropriate program should identify equipment, its operating environment, applicable manufacturer information, workplace risk controls and relevant guidance. Existing records can help determine what has already been tested and when.
Keep the evidence organised
Records should make it easy to understand what was checked, the result, who completed the work and what is due next. Failed equipment should have a clear isolation or action process.
